A litigation boutique representing clients in Federal and State courts throughout West Virginia...

Peter G Markham

Peter represents individuals, business and labor organizations, and financial institutions in contract and tort actions. He particularly enjoys courtroom advocacy and has won cases in the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fourth and Sixth Circuits.

Peter has a diverse practice. He defends banks and commercial retailers against allegations of predatory lending, loan servicing abuse, and unlawful debt collection. In this connection, Peter has had significant experience litigating claims brought under the West Virginia Consumer Credit & Protection Act and comparable federal statutes. Peter has also represented plaintiffs in catastrophic injury and wrongful death lawsuits, particularly in the industrial and coal mining contexts. More recently, Peter has focused on representing landowners who have not been paid proper royalty for the production of their oil and natural gas interests.

Peter studied English literature in the Honors Program at Virginia Tech, graduating summa cum laude in 2000. While in Blacksburg, Peter was awarded the Jenks M. Robertson Scholarship and was elected to Phi Beta Kappa. Peter then attended the West Virginia University College of Law, earning a Doctor of Jurisprudence degree in 2003. At WVU, Peter served on the National Moot Court Team and clerked for U.S. District Judge Joseph R. Goodwin through the Federal Externship Program.

Following law school, Peter clerked for Circuit Judge Robert B. King of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit. Thereafter, Peter studied Law, Anthropology and Society at the London School of Economics and received a Master of Science degree, with Merit, in 2006.

Peter joined the Firm in 2006. He is an active member of the John A. Field, Jr. American Inn of Court and WVU’s Mountain Honorary Fraternity.
